PS SD TVET Opens Governing Council Induction at Geothermal Training College, Naivasha

The Principal Secretary for the State Department for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) has officially opened the induction programme for the Kisii National Polytechnic Governing Council held at the Geothermal Training College in Naivasha.

The induction brings together newly appointed members of the Governing Council, aimed at equipping them with the necessary knowledge and understanding of their roles in steering the institution’s governance, strategic direction, and accountability in line with national TVET policies.

Speaking during the opening ceremony, the Principal Secretary emphasized the government’s commitment to strengthening governance structures within TVET institutions to enhance efficiency, transparency, and quality training outcomes. The PS noted that strong governing councils are key to improving institutional performance and aligning training programmes with the country’s skills development agenda.

The induction programme focuses on key areas including institutional governance, financial management, policy implementation, and leadership responsibilities within public TVET institutions. Participants are also expected to familiarize themselves with the evolving reforms in the TVET sector, including competency-based education and training.

The Kisii National Polytechnic leadership welcomed the initiative, noting that it will enhance the capacity of council members to provide effective oversight and support the institution’s growth and transformation agenda.

The event at the Geothermal Training College, Naivasha, underscores the government’s broader effort to professionalize governance in TVET institutions across the country as part of improving youth skills development and employability.
